Butler Community College

Butler Community College is an accredited 2-year community college located in El Dorado, Kansas, United States. Founded in 1927, it was originally named Butler County Community College, as El Dorado is the Butler County seat, but it was renamed in recent years. Butler is a fairly large community college, with an enrollment of 12,410 (as of 2010), and on-campus dormitories to house 345 students (most are commuters). The school president since 1995 has been Jackie Vietti, Ph.D. The school is accredited with the Higher Learning Commission, the North Central Association of Colleges, the National League of Nursing, and the Kansas State Board of Nursing. There are a number of branch campuses throughout the area, in Andover, Rose Hill, McConnell, Marion, Council Grove, and a number of distance-learning sites in high schools. The school mascot is the grizzly bear, colors are purple and gold, and sports teams include cross country, football, basketball (men and women), track, women's soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball, as well as a spirit squad. Butler has won 10 NJCAA national championships, including six in football (1981, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2008).

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.
