Collins College

Collins College is a private, for-profit college that specializes in the fields of visual arts and design. Owned by parent company, Career Education Corporation, Collins College has two campuses and many sister schools across the United States. The main campus is located in southeast Phoenix, with a smaller branch campus located in west Phoenix. Collins College students can earn a Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in a variety of programs, including Graphic Design, Game Design, Interior Design, Visual Art, and Film and Television Production. In 1978, Al and Florence Collins founded Al Collins Graphic Design School. The school opened in Phoenix to a small group of students. Starting with a small evening program, in the early '80s day classes were later added and larger facilities were obtained. In 1982, the school became accredited by the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools (NATTS). In 1985 the school moved to a larger campus in Tempe due to continued growth in its student population. The following year, a Computer Graphics program was added.

Student Stories

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
