The Fakir Mohan University which was carved out of the Utkal University was established by the Government of Orissa in 1999 acts as an affiliating university and aims to provide higher education through linkages with number of colleges and institutes around the state. Presently the university has more than 60 colleges and 1.5 lakhs students at the graduate and postgraduate levels. This university became one of the best Universities from the point of view of the quality of colleges and students in India.Further this F.M.University is the unique in introducing the applied courses in Post Graduate level and M.Sc. in Applied Physics & Ballistics as First in India. The University has well organized Computer Lab., Biotechnology Lab. , Environmental Science Lab.and Applied Physics & Ballistics Lab. Besides its Lab in the Dept.,there are centralised computer centre, Central Library with adequate connectivity facilities. Welfare facilities like Bank, Canteen , Gym , Boys Hostel , Girls Hostel , Staff Quarters etc. are also there in the present campus.
