Jai Prakash University (JPV) is a public university in Chapra, Bihar, India. It was established by the Government of Bihar in response to the needs of the people of Saran commissionary. It was inaugurated in November 1992 by Chief Minister Sri Lalu Prasad. The university was named in memory of freedom fighter Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan. The university is recognised by the UGC as a state university and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, having jurisdiction over the Saran Division, comprising the three districts of Saran, Siwan and Gopalganj. The university has 21 constituent colleges and 11 affiliated colleges, with a College of Engineering to be established soon. 250 acres (1.0 km) of land has been acquired for a new campus. The university campus is about two km away from the main town on the Chapra–Patna Road. The university has started several professional job/career-oriented courses in 1999-2000, sponsored by the UGC. The university is committed to promoting the educational interests of the members of Scheduled Castes, Schedule Tribes, and other weaker sections of society.
