McKenzie College

McKenzie College is a private career college, located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The College was founded in 1988 and offered a variety of training programs. In the early 1990s the College's president and owner, Donnie Snow, developed and introduced the first multimedia training program in Eastern Canada. The College became well known in Atlantic Canada in the technology and high tech industries. Mr. Snow had expanded the College to include three campuses, Halifax and Sydney Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick. Graduates of the college were positioned at an early time in the New Media field to take advantage of new opportunities offered by the adoption of digital technologies and the Internet. In 1998, Donnie Snow, along with vice president Ken MacLeod, were instrumental in the opening of a technical innovation center in the former courthouse building in the city of Sydney, Nova Scotia. This new center, Silicon Island, housed the College along with a dozen other companies dedicated to computer, internet, media and communication technologies. Snow and MacLeod also began a distance education school, The Centre for Distance Education, in 1996.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
