Nalanda College Colombo

Nalanda College is a Buddhist school in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The college was established by P. de S. Kularatne as an offshoot of Ananda College Colombo on November 1, 1925. It was an era when the demand for students to enter Ananda College Colombo was immensely high. As a result, in 1923 the then principal of Ananda College Mr P. de S. Kularatne leased the bare land adjoining to Ananda College playground located in Campbell Place and moved some classes of Ananda. Those classrooms were in a humble bamboo-shaded hut. This wing of Ananda was under the administratorship of Mr E. W. Perera and the then director of education Mr Robinson was highly impressed the way it was functioning and was approved as a new institution. Later Mr Kularatne bought further lands close by and built up a new building comprising 16 class rooms; out of that two were used as laboratories and two others as the staff room and the principal's office. Mr. E. W Perera was appointed the head master and Venerable Balangoda Ananda Maitreya became the first Dharmarcharya. It was the 39th anniversary of Ananda College on 1 November 1925 that Mr Kularatne registered this offshoot of Ananda as a separate school. Mr. L. H.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
