Nanchang University (NCU; simplified Chinese: 南昌大学; traditional Chinese: 南昌大學; pinyin: Nánchāng Dàxué, also called Nan Da (pinyin: Nán Dà (Chinese: 南大; )) is an institution of tertiary education located in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China. Nanchang University was established in 1940 as Zhongzheng University. Nanchang University was listed among the National Key Universities of China. Nanchang University was established in 1940 by its original name, National Zhong Zheng University (国立中正大学; also National Chung-cheng University）, given by Chiang Kai-shek, then-president of the Republic of China. In September 1949, late in the Chinese Civil War， the university's name was changed to National Nanchang University. Following this, the university was administered under the District of South of China (中南行政区) of the People's Republic of China. In 1953, the central government of the People's Republic of China reformed the university system in mainland China. National Nanchang University was dismantled by the central government.
