Newman College of Higher Education

Newman University College is a university college offering academic degrees and teacher training in Birmingham, England. Known as Newman College of Higher Education until January 2008, it has the highest employment of graduates rate of UK universities and is in the top 25% of UK universities for teaching quality, academic support, personal development and assessment and feedback in the 2007 National Student Survey. In September 2007, it was given the right to award its own degrees by the Privy Council, giving it the formal status of a University College and, in January 2008, changing its name to reflect the new status. Newman was founded in 1968 on a campus in the suburb of Bartley Green. It is a Catholic institution, although it is open to students regardless of their religious beliefs, and is named in honour of the Catholic intellectual John Henry Newman, who had strong links with the city of Birmingham, through being an Oratorian and a member of the Birmingham Oratory. The college awards degrees from the University of Leicester, though in September 2007 it was given the right to award its own degrees.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
