Western Oklahoma State College

Western Oklahoma State College, formerly known as Altus Junior College, is a community college located in Altus, Oklahoma. In 2004 it graduated 272 with associate degrees. Of its 1500 undergraduates, 58 percent are female and 42 percent are male as of 2003. The ethnic composition of the students is 2003 was 74 percent white, 11 percent Hispanic, 10 percent black, 4 percent American Indian/Alaskan, and 2 percent Asian/Pacific Islander. WOSC offers three degrees with a total of thirty-five areas of emphasis. They are: WOSC is involved in intercollegiate sports such as men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, baseball, rodeo, cheerleading, and golf. Western Oklahoma State College defeated Jones County, MS to claim the 2011 Division II NJCAA Baseball Championship. Western Oklahoma State College was founded in 1926 under the name Altus Junior College. In 1974 state legislature changed its name to the present Western Oklahoma State College.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
