Minnesota State University-Mankato

Minnesota State University, Mankato (Minnesota State Mankato) is a public four-year university located in Mankato, Minnesota, a community of 53,000 located 75 miles (121 km) southwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul. As of Fall 2009, the student body is the third-largest in the state of Minnesota with over 15,000 students, with the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus ranking first. There are two satellite campuses, one in the Twin Cities suburb of Edina and the other in Owatonna. Students are served by 600 full-time faculty members creating a 28:1 student to faculty ratio. The school was founded in 1868 with only 27 total students enrolled and is now part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU). The current President is Dr. Richard Davenport, who began his term in 2002. The athletic teams are known as the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks with school colors of purple and gold. Teams primarily compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The exceptions are the Men's and Women's ice hockey teams who compete at the NCAA Division I level, in the highly regarded Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
