Bangladesh National University (Bengali: জাতীয় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, বাংলাদেশ ) is a parent university of Bangladesh which was primarily established to affiliate all the universities and colleges. It is situated in Gazipur, on the outskirts of Dhaka. The university has stature with a justification encompassing the whole country. The specialty of National University of Bangladesh consists in its being a post-graduate (academic teaching and research) university as well as an affiliating university. It is a state run public university. Its prime focus is on the development of the campus offering diversified course at the higher level. It has already a school and a centre and meanwhile it has established a number of institutes. The institutes are aimed at providing courses of higher level leading to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees. The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences(IHS) was opened thirteen years ago in 1997 to offer 2 year long M.Phil following modern American credit hour and semester system including course works,two months internship and thesis guided by supervisor.
