Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln is a university college in Lincoln, England. It was established in 1862, but only gained full degree awarding powers in 2006. Located in historical Lincoln, it is popular with mature and local students, with 27% of the undergraduate body aged 21 or above at the start of their course, and 50% coming from within a thirty mile radius of the university. The courses often include a vocational element and many, but not all, engage with teaching and education subjects – of four foundation and nine honours degrees, eight have a focus on education-related studies or teaching. The University College is a provider of higher education by degree and initial teacher training. Until acquiring university college status in 2006, the University of Hull and later the University of Leicester validated its qualifications. The University College now awards its own degrees. It was originally known as the Diocesan Training School for Mistresses, then Lincoln Diocesan Training College and then Bishop Grosseteste College before adopting its current name in 2006. It was founded as a teacher training college for the Diocese of Lincoln in 1862.
