Bishop Rawstorne

Bishop Rawstorne C of E Language College is a high school situated in the village of Croston, Lancashire, England. Bishop Rawstorne was founded in the 1960s. Pupils are drawn from a wide area, and is over-subscribed every year. The school was awarded DfES Teacher Training in late 2000, by the then Secretary of State for Education, David Blunkett MP. The school caters for ages 11 to 16, ranging from year 7 to 11. After the final year, students can pursue further education, get a modern apprenticeship or employment. In January 2008 there were 933 pupils. The school is a small campus containing a main block (which includes the main hall, cafeteria, maths, IT, foreign languages and humanities departments), a science block, technology block, administrative block (music, RE, geography and learning support) and English block, which also has a small cafeteria. A recent extension of the music department (opened by Paul McKenna, captain of Preston North End FC) allowed the opening of a music school and a new road was constructed to ease congestion. As of 2010 the headteacher was Alan Davies, who succeeded George Lloyd in 2008.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
