Caribbean Medical University is a medical school located in Curaçao. CMU enrolls classes three times a year: January, May, and September. Students complete their Basic Science education on the island in four semesters and upon successful completion, students move to 5 semesters of Clinical Rotaitons in the United States. After completing the 4th semester, students study for and sit for the USMLE Step 1 exam, and then continue on in clinical clerkships at teaching hospitals throughout the United States. Upon completion of the curriculum, similar to that of US medical schools, students must pass the USMLE Step 2 CS and USMLE Step 2 CK, prior to graduation. CMU is recognized by the Government of Curaçao and the Government of Netherlands Antilles to confer Doctor of Medicine degrees. The aim of the curriculum of the medical school is to produce leaders in medicine, who will take the foundation of a broad education in medicine, to improve health through patient care, research, and education. Medical education at the Caribbean Medical University is delivered over four calendar years.
