City of Ely Community College is a comprehensive secondary school appointed as a Business & Enterprise College, located in Ely, Cambridgeshire, approximately 20 miles from Cambridge. There are 1258 pupils on the roll. (2008 Ofsted Inspection report figure). The school's history goes back to the early 1960s, when it was founded by way of a donation from the Catherine Needham Foundation, a local charitable trust set up in memory of Lady Catherine Needham. The school was originally called Needham's Grammar School, and when first opened, it had approx. 790 pupils attending. It was renamed in the mid 1970s, to City of Ely College, under the direction of the Head Teacher, Mr Bullock. The school is split into 6 buildings, each housing different areas of the school's curriculum: Needham's Block - The original school building, which now houses the Mathematics, English, Design Technology and Modern Foreign Languages Units. Needham's gym is used mainly for gymnastics. Downham Block - A recent extension to the school housing History, Geography, and PSHE.
