The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), formerly the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), is a Central University in India. Its main campus is located in Hyderabad. It also operates campuses at Lucknow and Shillong. The EFLU provides for the study of English and foreign languages and their literatures, organisation of research, training of teachers, production of teaching materials, and extension services, to help improve the standards of the teaching of English and Foreign Languages in India. It is the only University in India catering exclusively to the teaching/learning of Foreign Languages. Over the years, EFLU has been introducing various foreign languages that are in demand. It currently offers academic programmes in English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, Turkish, Italian, Chinese, Korean, and Hindi. The EFLU was also one among the first institutes in the country to start a cultural studies course with an M.A in that subject. The EFLU offers M.Phil and Ph.D. in this area which blurs the disciplinary lines between Sociology, Film Studies, Anthropology, History, Literature etc.
