The German University in Cairo (GUC) (Arabic: الجامعة الألمانية بالقاهرة‎, transliteration: al-gāmaaʿa al-almāniyya bil-Qāhira), is a private, nonsectarian Egyptian university established in cooperation with some German state universities of as well as some of the German and Egyptian educational institutions. It is the first German university outside Germany. The German University in Cairo GUC is a profit institution founded on the 6th of June 2006. University of Ulm and University of Stuttgart were the patron universities and the main partners, the University of Mannheim and University of Tübingen joined as cooperation partners. Also the DAAD supported the project by providing funds as well as some other shareholders. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research provides funding for the GUC. The courses are based on German curricula, with the Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart acting as partners. They guarantee the quality of the courses and degrees, which are recognized in Germany. The two universities are supported in this by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
