Glendowie College

Glendowie College is a co-ed secondary school based along Crossfield Road, Mt Taylor Drive and Riddell Road in Auckland, New Zealand. The college was opened in 1961, with fewer than 200 pupils. Glendowie College currently offers NCEA as its national qualification standard. An Advanced Learning Program is available in year 9 and 10 for highly intelligent students. Also, exceptionally gifted student are given the opportunity to accelerate into classes a year or two years ahead of their peers in order to progress their learning. The main buildings on the school grounds were originally named using letters from the alphabet, but in 2006 they re-named the buildings after past principals. The buildings are: The Adams Building was the only building established when the college opened in 1961. Before the library was relocated to the Sommerville building it was located in the Hammer building. The houses of Glendowie College are named after continents. All students and staff members are placed into houses, which they represent by wearing house colours at sports events.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
