The Jeppiaar Educational Trust was formed in 1987. Jeppiaar Engineering College (JEC) is one of the institutions of Jeppiaar Educational Trust and was established on 15 August 2001. The college is a Christian Minority Institution. The college is affiliated to the Anna University of technology, Chennai and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and Government of Tamil Nadu. The institution was established primarily as an engineering college but also conducts courses in Business Administration. Currently, the college consists of the following academic departments. The Mechanical Department was inspected in the year 2001 and later accredited on 19 July 2008. The department has an intake of around 132 students presently. The Electronics & Communication Engineering department started in the year 2001 with a Student intake of 60 and increased to 120 in the year 2004. It is later accredited on 19 July 2008. The IEEE student Branch of Jeppiaar Engineering College was formed on 25 December 2005 and it was inaugurated on 27 March 2006. Since then it has organized many events.
