The Jorhat Engineering College was established in 1960 by the Govt. of Assam. It is one of the premier technical colleges in the northeastern region. The college as well as all the courses are recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.) and affiliated to the Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, Assam. Jorhat Engineering College was set up with an intention of providing an efficient system of education and to cater to the needs of technical manpower in the North-Eastern region of the country. The college now offers four year under graduate courses in five disciplines, viz. Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Mechanical Engineering , one three year post graduate course in Computer Application leading to The Master of Computer Application (M.C.A.) degree, and a post graduate degree in Production Engineering under the Mechanical Engineering Department from the session July 2004 . Each department of the college has a well equipped laboratory. The well organized Workshop of the college provides exhaustive hands-on-training to the students.
