Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College

Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College (KVCTC), formerly known as West Virginia State Community and Technical College, is a comprehensive community and technical college that provides a broad spectrum of associate degrees, certificates, industry certifications, continuing education, community service, employee training, developmental and transfer education. KVCTC is located in Institute, West Virginia, United States on the campus of West Virginia State University. Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College was established in 1953 as a community college on the campus of what was then West Virginia State College (now West Virginia State University). In 2003, it was accredited as West Virginia State Community and Technical College but remained administratively linked to WVSU. In 2008, the legislature fully separated the Community and Technical College from its parent 4-year institution. However, both schools continue to share the same campus. However, efforts are underway to establish a new, separate campus to facilitate KVCTC's mission and remedy the extremely crowded conditions endured by both KVCTC and WVSU.

Student Stories

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
