Mesa State College

Mesa State College is a public college with a liberal arts focus in Grand Junction, Colorado. The college has its primary campus in Grand Junction, a two-year division Western Colorado Community College, and a smaller campus in Montrose, Colorado. Mesa State grants two-year associates degrees, four-year bachelors degrees, and master's degrees in business administration and education. The school is in the process of developing its first doctorate program. Mesa State College will be renamed Colorado Mesa University in time for the Fall 2011 school semester. The move is aimed at establishing geographic recognition, and providing clarity and brand equity while preserving the school's heritage. The Board of Trustees consists of eleven trustees (nine voting and two non-voting members). The voting members are appointed by the Colorado Governor, confirmed by the Colorado State Senate and serve staggered terms. The Mesa State College Student Trustee is elected by the Student-body and is considered to be one of the most influential positions in the University and College System. The Senatus Academicus names a member from their ranks to serve as the eleventh member.

Student Stories

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
