National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

The National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra or NIT Kurukshetra (earlier Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra) is a public technical university wholly funded by Government of India. In December 2008, it was accredited with the status of Institution of National Importance (INI). It is one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology established and administered by Government of India. It runs undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy programme in Engineering, Sciences and Humanities. The institute consistently ranks among the top engineering colleges of the country. The Central Government in consultation with the Planning Commission had sanctioned a scheme of establishment of Regional Engineering Colleges under the Third Five Year Plan. The Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra (now NIT Kururkshetra) was one of the seventeen colleges in the country. It was established in 1963 as a joint and cooperative enterprise of the government off India and the state government of Haryana.
