Saint Paul College - A Community and Technical College

Saint Paul College, Minnesota is a community and technical college located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was founded in 1910 and has about 7,500 full-time and part-time students. It was formerly known as St. Paul Technical College (SPTC). Accompanying the name change, the college implemented a liberal arts program and an Associate in Arts degree in addition to the numerous technical and associate degrees it offers. Saint Paul College began as a “Boy’s Vocational School” in 1910 and served young men interested in working in the building trades. Later, “Girl’s Vocational School” opened to train young women for health careers. Shortly after World War II, a veteran’s program was developed for returning servicemen. Learning took place in area high schools and other St. Paul locations until 1966 when faculty and staff moved into its current facility—a 523,000-square-foot (48,600 m) complex located on a 30-acre (120,000 m) site. This site became Saint Paul Technical Vocational Institute, or Saint Paul TVI. In 2002, the new name, Saint Paul College - A Community & Technical College was implemented in a new focus on liberal arts as well as the school's traditional vocational training.

Student Stories

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
