The Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, (Hebrew: מכון שכטר למדעי היהדות‎, Machon Schechter) located in Jerusalem, Israel, is an academic institution affiliated with Conservative Judaism first established in New York. Founded in 1984, the Schechter Institute is located in Neve Granot, a neighborhood behind the Israel Museum. Starting with four rabbinical students, it now has an enrollment of over 450. The Institute, which offers a Master's program in Jewish Studies, is affiliated with the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary, the Tali Education Fund, which develops Jewish studies curricula for secular schools in Israel, and Midreshet Yerushalayim. The new campus designed by Israel Prize laureate Ada Carmi will include a library, a synagogue, a Beit Midrash and classrooms. The cost of the project is $22 million.The old building, dating back to the early 1960s, was originally used as student housing for rabbinical students of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America doing a mandatory year of study in Israel.
