Shasta College

Shasta College is an American two-year to four- year community college located in Redding, California founded in 1950. It later moved to a much bigger campus, while the original campus became the new location of Shasta High School. Shasta College has approximately 11,500 students of all ages, including traditional college students, concurrently-enrolled high school students, older, re-entry students, and continuing education students who are simply taking classes for fun. The college has a wide variety of transfer-level and pre-transfer-level classes and programs, including art, physical education, social studies, language arts, and science. It also offers a host of vocational programs including fire technology, nursing, and welding. Many recent high school graduates attend the college in order to transfer to universities after two years. Though many students commute to the college from their homes, the college is one of the few California Community Colleges with a dormitory. Shasta College has a strong athletic program offering numerous sports programs. The school mascot is a Knight.

Student Stories

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
