The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka was established in 1995, in Oluvil region, a coastal area filled with natural resources. Its predecessor was the South Eastern University College of Sri Lanka. This university is situated in the coastal harbour town of Oluvil in Ampara District with the river Kaliodai by the side of the university. The university consists of four faculties namely, Faculty of Management and Commerce, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Culture, and Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language.
