Sri Venkateswara College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi in India. Commonly referred to by the name "venky" among the student community of the University. Over the last 50 years it has grown exceptionally and contributes largely towards the traditional undergraduate education in the country.In 2004, it was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as the "College with Potential for Excellence". In 2009 former college principal Dr A. Sankara Reddy was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award for his contributions in the field of literature and education. The college was ranked among the top three colleges in Delhi and among top 15(science colleges) in India by the survey conducted by India Today magazine in 2011. It inaugurated its 'golden jubilee celebrations' year on 17 August 2010. Founded under the auspices of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust, with the efforts of Padma Vibhushan Smt(Ms)Durgabai Deshmukh and Dr C.Anna Rao, the primary objective of the College was to cater to the educational needs of students from South India.The institution soon outgrew its regional character.
