The University of Colima (in Spanish: Universidad de Colima) is a Mexican public university with several campuses across the state of Colima, bordering the Pacific Ocean. It was created on September 16, 1940 by the President Lázaro Cárdenas as People's University of Colima (Universidad Popular de Colima), and intended to serve the educational needs of the Michoacán, Jalisco, and Colima. The University's library system holds over 93,127 volumes. The University of Colima was created with the name of People's University of Colima the September 16th of 1940, a project inspired by the revolutionary spirit. On August 25th of 1962, which is granted autonomy and is separated from the state education system, establishing strong university administrative and agricultural areas, and by striking hard work to obtain sufficient resources for growth. In the 1980s increased educational service offerings to meet the demand for skilled human resources in agricultural areas, industrial and commercial, which laid the groundwork for the launch of the University of Colima to the prominent place occupied by today in the national public education with significant presence in the international arena.
