Walchand College of Engineering

Walchand College of Engineering (Marathi: वालचंद अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय) is an autonomous Engineering education institute in the city of Sangli, Maharashtra, India. The WCE campus is located on nearly 102 acres (415,000 m²) of land situated in Vishrambag, roughly midway between the twin cities of Sangli and Miraj. The college was established in 1947 by Hon. Late Dhondumama Sathe beginning with an undergraduate course in Civil Engineering with an intake capacity of 60. Previously it was affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur, but it is now an autonomous college offering B.Tech. degree. The college is named after Walchand Hirachand, an industrialist. In 1947, the college began with a Civil Engineering department offering an undergraduate degree (B.E. Civil) with an intake capacity of 60. Subsequently, undergraduate courses in Electrical and Mechanical engineering - B.E.(Elec) and B.E.(Mech) - with an intake capacity of 60 each were introduced, in 1950 and 1951 respectively. Postgraduate courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and a diploma course in Industrial Electronics were introduced in 1971.
