Avinashilingam University

Avinashilingam University For Women was a part of University of Madras but from June 1987 got a separate identity. It is now the largest institution in the country for imparting home science education. The institute functions under seven faculties, namely, Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business Administration, Engineering and Community Education, and Entrepreneurship Development, each faculty functioning under a Dean. Since 1989 the university has offered two Majors and two Ancillaries for the undergraduate degree Courses. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each semester having a minimum of 100 working days.
