Dartmouth Academy is the first academy in the south-west of England and opened as an academy in september 2010. The academy was formerly two schools, Dartmouth Community College and Dartmouth Primary school. It is an "all-through" academy. Open since September 2010, it is open to students aged 3-18. Dartmouth Academy has two specialist subjects: Visual Arts -- specialising in Art and Design, Textiles, Media and Drama, and Photography. Mathematics -- early entry to GCSE/A Level examinations and attendance at university master classes will be features for older learners who are gifted and talented in this area. The school states that it aims to reflect a culturally inclusive ethos. There are plans to develop partnerships with other schools, academies, further and higher education institutions, and businesses. The academy is sponsored by E-ACT, a not-for-profit charity. It is affiliated with three local partners who, along with E-ACT, support the academy.
