Leading University (Bengali: লিডিং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or (LU) is a private university of Bangladesh. It was established in 2002 by the Private University Act 1992. The outreach campus of LU is located in Siddeshwari, Dhaka. Leading University is the first Government approved private university of Sylhet. This institution was founded by renowned philanthropist Mr. Ragib Ali. He is also a pioneer in establishing the first private university in Bangladesh North South University. He proposed to the Ministry of education for establishing Leading university on 24 August 1996. After that, LU was inaugurated on 4 March 2002. The university started its first semester with 106 undergraduate students. LU has two campuses at Sylhet and Dhaka. Currently, around 5000 students are studying at LU. Leading University has 7 Academic departments. The duration of each semester is thirteen weeks.
