National Institute Of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) (Hindi: राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, सिल्चर) , an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act was established in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), Silchar Assam , India. In year 2002, it was upgraded to the status of an NIT from a Regional Engineering College(REC). The Institute is located on the Silchar-Hailakandi road at a distance of about 8 kilometers from the southern outskirts of Silchar city. Buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis can be hired from the city centre to reach the institute. Silchar is situated at 92.52 degrees East longitude and 24.6 degrees North latitude and at a height of 114.69 meters above sea level.
