St. Edward's College

St. Edward's College is a voluntary aided, Catholic school in the UK located in the West Derby suburb of Liverpool. The institution was formerly a boys grammar school run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. The school pupils are identifiable by the bright purple blazer that is part of the uniform for pupils in years 7 to 9 (years 10 to 13 wear a black blazer). The school is heavily over-subscribed. The school is situated on the eastern side of Queen's Drive (A5058), a half-mile north of the A57 junction and the Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The North Liverpool Extension Line passed to the rear of the school, next to the playing fields, which is now part of the Trans Pennine Trail and NCN Route 62. Liverpool Community College have a site on the opposite side of Queen's Drive in Tuebrook, the former Millbank College of Commerce. In 1853 the Catholic Institute was founded by Father James Nugent, at a time when barely 5% of Catholic children received any education at all. An early visitor to the CI, based in Hope Street near the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, was Cardinal Wiseman, who formally opened the school.

  • Maria Ly is quite literally a Rock Star. You’ll often find her hanging off a 5.13a grade rock climbing route, she is the rock star co-founder of Skimble (which is incubated by Rock Health), and you can find her rock formation photography featured in Outside Magazine.

  • March 13, 1988 was the day we moved to America. Although it wasn't my first time in the country, that date was the beginning of my journey through the American school system. Those eleven years filled me with a lifetime of great memories.

  • Mayank is an inventor and zebra-enthusiast. He developed Stripespotter, a biological barcode scanner for zebras, and is a part of the team behind Facebook insights. By way of India to Oman to the US, Mayank can be found behind the wheel of a red Porsche dreaming up his next big idea.
