Texas A&M University–Central Texas is a public university in Killeen, Texas. It is one of the newest members of The Texas A&M University System. Founded in 1999 as a branch of Tarleton State University, it became an independent branch of the Texas A&M University System in September 2009. It is an upper-level only university, offering courses only to junior and senior level students transferring from junior colleges or other universities, as well as graduate students. With an average age of 32 and 23% of the students being military, most students attend part-time. The university currently has no campus buildings and leases space on the campus of the Central Texas College. 672 acres (2.72 km) were donated to the university by the United States Army on Fort Hood. Construction of the first building there began on August 26, 2010 and completion is scheduled for spring of 2012. Students at the university are known as the Warriors, and the school colors are navy blue, maroon, and silver.. Tarleton State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the bachelor's and master's degrees.
